1. Becoming a vendor
Selling on The Numis House is by application and approval only. We review your experience, inventory, and reputation, and we verify your identity and business under our AML & KYC Policy before activation. Approval creates a vendor account under these Vendor Terms, which supplement the Terms of Service.
You must be a legally competent adult or duly registered business, and you warrant that you have the legal right to sell every item you list, that your items are lawfully owned and lawfully exportable from their location, and that you are not subject to sanctions.
2. Listing obligations
- Describe accurately: country, denomination, date, material, grade (certified grades only with visible certification), and every known defect — cleaning, repair, tooling, restoration, graffiti.
- Photograph the actual item; retain the item photographed until sale.
- Provenance: for ancient items and items over 250 years old, state provenance to the extent known and retain supporting documents; produce them to TNH on request.
- Never list prohibited items (see the Prohibited & Restricted Items Policy) — including counterfeits, unmarked reproductions, antiquities lacking lawful export status, stolen material, or items embargoed by sanctions.
- Set honest prices; shill bidding or coordinated price manipulation of your own or others' listings is prohibited.
- Mark India-located items over 100 years old as domestic-only per the Antiquities and Art Treasures Act, 1972 — the Platform assists with flags, but legal responsibility for classification is yours.
3. Commission and fees
Listing is free. TNH deducts a commission from each completed sale at the rate stated in your vendor dashboard (standard rate 10% of the item price; auction lots 10% of hammer price; category or promotional variations are shown before you list). Payment-processing costs are included in the commission — there is no separate gateway fee to you.
Commission rates may change with 30 days' notice; changes never apply retroactively to sales already made.
4. Payouts
- Sale proceeds minus commission become payable after delivery confirmation plus the buyer's return/dispute window (14 days for fixed-price sales; 7 days for auction lots).
- Payouts run weekly to your verified bank account in the payout currency shown in your dashboard. Currency conversion, where needed, uses our provider's rate at execution.
- We may withhold or offset payouts for open disputes, suspected fraud, chargebacks, refunds owed, or legal/AML holds — and will tell you the reason unless the law forbids it.
- You are responsible for your own taxes on your sales, including income tax and any GST/VAT registration and remittance obligations that apply to you. Where the law requires TNH to withhold tax or report vendor income (e.g., marketplace tax-reporting regimes), we will do so and inform you.
5. Fulfilment and service standards
- Dispatch within your stated handling time (maximum 5 business days) with tracking and full insurance, packed to the archival standards of the Shipping & Export Policy.
- Accurate customs declarations — never under-declare or mark merchandise as a gift.
- Respond to buyer messages and dispute requests within 2 business days.
- Honour the Returns & Refunds Policy as your minimum standard.
- Maintain metrics above the thresholds shown in your dashboard (order-defect rate, late dispatch, cancellation rate). Sustained breaches lead to warnings, listing limits, or removal.
6. Authenticity and liability
You warrant the authenticity of every item you sell. If an item is returned under the Authenticity Guarantee, the full sale amount is charged back to you, plus a review fee if a professional opinion was needed. Repeated authenticity failures result in permanent removal and, where fraud is indicated, referral to authorities and grading services.
You indemnify TNH against claims, penalties, and costs arising from your breach of these Vendor Terms — including cultural-property, customs, tax, sanctions, and intellectual-property violations connected to your listings.
7. Auctions run by vendors
Approved vendors may consign lots to auction. The Auction & Bidding Terms govern the sale; you set the starting bid and any reserve before the auction opens and cannot change or withdraw the lot after the first bid, except for a documented legality problem. You, your household, and your associates must not bid on your own lots.
8. Suspension, termination, and survival
You may stop selling at any time; obligations for existing orders, open auctions, returns, indemnities, and record-keeping survive. We may suspend or terminate vendor status for breach, legal risk, or sustained poor performance — with notice and a chance to respond except in cases of fraud, counterfeits, or sanctions risk, where suspension is immediate. On termination we complete open transactions where safe to do so and remit any final balance after the standard hold periods.
